Rare oversized George Burke photograph signed by Hall of Fame shortstop Rabbit Maranville. The matte-finish photo captures Maranville as a member of the Boston Braves as he poses in the dugout. Burke's credit stamp appears on the reverse. These large format photos, which measure 11x14", are rare and were produced by Burke to be used as special presentation pieces by the players. Such photos were normally reserved for close friends, which is why so few are seen in the hobby today. Maranville has beautifully inscribed the photo in black fountain pen along the top border: "With Kindest Regards to Bob Smith/from Rabbit Maranville." Both the inscription and signature are boldly rendered and grade 9/10. While we cannot be certain, it seems highly probable that the Bob Smith to whom this photo was presented was pitcher Bob Smith, who was a teammate of Maranville on the Boston Braves in 1929, 1930, and 1933. The photo displays a few small, light creases (mainly in the border areas and corners), none of which detract from its overall Excellent to Mint appearance. Full LOA from JSA.
