Rare signed photo of George Keogan (1890-1943), longtime Notre Dame Hall of Fame basketball coach. The vintage portrait image has been inscribed "To my good friend Earl from G. E. Keogan" in black fountain in the upper left corner. Both the text and signature grade 6/10 overall. Keogan was the greatest basketball coach in Notre Dame history. During his twenty-year tenure (1923-1943) the club never had a losing season and four times won over twenty games (teams rarely played more than twenty-three games a year at the time). Keogan died of a heart attack at the age of 53 in 1943. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1961. As a result of his early death, Keogan's signature is exceedingly rare, especially on a photograph, and one that represents a "Holy Grail" for many Hall of Fame basketball autograph collectors. The photo (7x9") displays some very light rippling from having once been housed in a photo album and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Full LOA from JSA.
