Two-page handwritten letter (on both sides of a single unlined sheet), undated, signed by Jackie Robinson. PSA has encapsulated the letter, certifying both the signature and handwriting as "Authentic." In his letter, written on his personal letterhead to his good friend Bob Campbell, Robinson revels in the football success of his alma mater, UCLA, discusses the publication of his life story in Look magazine, and asks for a favor for a friend. In part: "I guess everyone is as proud of UCLA as I am. . . . Sanders has done a terrific job. . . . It's too bad we cannot go to the bowl I believe this year would have been the year and it would certainly settle the national picture as far as rating goes. . . . Starting in January Look mag will be doing my life story. . . . I believe one of my most pleasant memories is the asking by the school what it would take to keep there although my athletic days were gone. That to me indicated how wise my choice was when I chose UCLA. . . . Now to get to what I am really writing about. My brother-in-law. . . . has just passed his written and agility test for the police dept. and as you know it is important if a word or two can be put in for him. I am asking this favor and I have no doubt about this fellow's ability. . . . Please if you can see what can be done for him. . . ." Signed "Jackie Robinson" in blue ink (grading 9/10). The notation "C/O Richard Simons Newfield Ave Stamford Conn." (written in an unknown hand) appears to the left of Robinson's signature (Richard Simon was Robinson's neighbor in Stamford, Connecticut). Although no year is listed, given the content, this letter dates to 1954. The letter (7.25x10.5") displays two horizontal mailing folds and is in Excellent to Mint condition.
