It's here and available: Joe Montana's 1982 Super Bowl XVI beanie that was worn by the quarterback the week the 49ers went to their first Super Bowl at the Pontiac Silverdome. Parading around the environs of Pontiac and nearby Detroit, Michigan, wearing this beanie, in the week before the Jan. 24th contest that pitted Joe's San Francisco 49ers against the Cincinnati Bengals couldn't have been bad luck for Montana. He led the 49ers to the team's first-ever Super Bowl win, by a 26-21 score and was also named the Super Bowl XVI MVP. Montana scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and passed to Earl Cooper for an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and kicker Ray Wersching added a pair of field goals and two extra points to give the 49ers a 20-point halftime lead, with the 20-point differential setting a Super Bowl record for a first half lead. Montana was 14-22 on the day, for 157 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions. The Bengals, behind two touchdown passes from Ken Anderson to Dan Ross, made a second-half comeback, but the 49ers held on for the win. The Montana-worn beanie is a nice, knit cap. The cap is in the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue, with a white pom-pom on top. On opposite sides of the beanie is "SUPER BOWL XVI" in white letters and white Roman numerals against a blue background. The beanie has no tags, and no size is indicated. The beanie shows light wear. It has some loose threads, but it is in overall excellent condition. The offered beanie was worn by the quarterback that engineered San Francisco's first-ever Super Bowl win, and the first of four Super Bowl wins for Montana. It's a great - and lucky - Super Bowl memento.
