Displayed is a 1926 Sporting News M101-7 Supplement New York Yankees team photo of the American League Champions, with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The photo is dated Oct. 28th, 1926. The 1926 Yankees had a 91-63-1 season record and lost the World Series in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. The '26 Yanks were managed by Hall of Fame manager Miller Huggins, and the Bronx Bombers had six Hall of Fame players: Ruth, Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Earle Combs, Herb Pennock, and Waite Hoyt. Gehrig that season batted .313, with 16 homers and 109 RBIs. At 31 years of age, Ruth was still in his prime and batted .372, with 47 home runs and 153 RBIs. As for pitchers, Pennock went 23-11 and Hoyt was 16-12. The supplement's black and white photo measures 9.8x14.1". Gehrig is in the top row, fourth from the right, and Ruth is to Gehrig's left. To Ruth's left are Hall of Famers Lazzeri, and then Hoyt. Fourth from the left, in the top row is Combs. Mark Koenig, who became a part of the Yankees' '27 Murderers' Row team, is in the center row, on the left, and Bob Meusel, another Murderers' Row player, is in the center row, on the right. Manager Huggins is the small man, seated, fourth from right and seated second from the right is Pennock. Over the near-century since its printing, the photo exhibits some expected darkening. There is minor paper loss along the edges in spots, and on the upper corners, the very tip - of less than half an inch - is missing from each corner. There is a fold down the horizontal middle, and a few, tiny spots. Despite some minor imperfections, this team photo makes a fine remembrance as it contains many Yankee icons, including the entire six-man position player grouping of Combs, Koenig, Ruth, Gehrig, Meusel, and Lazzeri, the future Murderers' Row of the great 1927 World Champions.
