Presented is a photo of Hall of Fame outfielder Edd Roush, taken by famed photographer Charles Conlon. It's a photo that will grade as a Type I. Roush was a center fielder who played 18 seasons in the Major Leagues: Chicago White Sox (1913); New York Giants (1916 & 1927-29); Cincinnati Reds (1916-26 & 1931). Roush was a 2-time National League batting champion with a .323 lifetime average. He was a key player on the 1919 Cincinnati Reds World Champions, who defeated the Chicago White Sox (Black Sox) in the World Series. The 8x10" photo displays numerous crop marks so that the photo would depict Roush's batting form with the background of a ballpark and other players cropped out. On the back is stamped "Charles M. Conlon/Evening Telegram/New York." Writing in pencil by an unknown hand is on the verso, which reads, in part, "silhouette all around 4 1/2 deep, June 28/Page 8/2/June 14 at 2." Also, on verso, in blue pencil, written by an unknown hand, is "ROUSH (Cincinnati)." The photo has a tear of about 2" in the lower left corner, a small tear on the right corner, some tiny paper loss in the upper right corner, and some creasing. There is also a pinhole at the top and a very small tear at the bottom. It's a photo that recalls both the great ballplayer, in Roush, and the great photographer, in Conlon.
