Offered is a very rare, 1940s, "hockey" tobacco tin. The tin, with a diameter of about 4.3", held cigarette tobacco. On the lid is stamp-printed "W.C. MACDONALD INC. TOBACCOS MONTREAL." The tin emphasizes the red, white, and blue colors of the Montreal Canadiens. As a bi-lingual city, Montreal has government offices and businesses that use both English and French. In English, one side of the tin reads, "Hockey/Cigarette Tobacco/Fresh Mild Fragrant/Sportsmen's Favorite." The other side of the tin reads, in French, "Hockey/Tabac Cigarettes/Frais Doux Arome/Le Favorite Des Sportifs," which is the French version of the aforementioned English on the can. The can held a product made in Canada and has a player image wearing what looks to be a Montreal Canadiens jersey. This is a product made in Canada, and on two sides of the can there is an image of a hockey player skating with a puck on his stick, and he is dressed in what looks like the red, white, and blue uniform of the Montreal Canadiens. The lightweight tin only weighs 4.4 ounces. There are a few surface flaws, the remnant of a small piece of tape, and small scratches, but the tobacco tin is still very nice, with no dents or major flaws. The offering makes an unusual, and scarce, vintage hockey memento.
