Displayed is a rare offering - a 1995 double-sided street banner that features two Cleveland stars: Hall of Fame outfielder Dave Winfield and pitcher Julian Tavarez. This 27x80" banner hung on the streets of Cleveland. The 1995 Cleveland Indians had a 100-44 record as the AL Central Division Champions in a shortened 144-game season. In the playoffs, Cleveland defeated the Chicago White Sox and the Seattle Mariners to reach the World Series, the first Cleveland Indians team to reach the World Series since 1954. In the Fall Classic, the Indians were defeated by the Atlanta Braves. The team's best slugger was Albert Belle, who led the AL in runs (121), RBIs (126), doubles (52), home runs (50), total bases (377) and slugging percentage (.690). Belle that year became the first Major Leaguer to ever hit at least 50 doubles and 50 homers in the same season. Relief pitcher Jose Mesa was second in the voting for the AL Cy Young Award as he had 52 saves, with a 3-0 record and a minute 1.14 ERA. Dave Winfield is featured on one side of the banner, shown swinging a bat. The colorful banner shows Winfield in a home Cleveland uniform. Winfield was a 12-time All-Star who played with six teams in a 22-year Major League career, batting .283 lifetime, with 465 home runs. Winfield was 43 years old in 1995, and in his final Major League season he only played in 46 games. batting .191. On the other side of the street banner, Tavarez is depicted. He was a relief pitcher who had a great season, with a 10-0 record and 2.44 ERA. The banner has two-way wind flaps. The Tavarez banner has a number of small scratch marks, a few on the depiction of Tavarez's face. With the exception of the aforementioned small scratch marks, the banner is in EXCELLENT condition.
