Offered is an outstanding and unique artist’s proof selected to be retained by noted artist Henry Stull. It is a large print signed by the artist in 1891 of racehorse Tournament, winner of both the Great Eastern Handicap in 1889 and the rich Realization stakes in 1890. The photogravure print is in B & W without printing; however, the horse is Tournament as evidenced by actual description and coloring when issued. A copy of the print, in color, with jockey William Hayward is included. The overall print is 33.5x26.5" which includes the image 20.5x18.5". It is signed and dated by Stull that mostly extends outside the image. Also, outside the image is a pencil drawing of the jockey Edward "Snapper" Garrison standing left with whip in the colors of racehorse Tenny that competed against Salvator, with Isaac Murphy up, in their famed match race. The print is extremely rare and important without considering Stull’s Remarque representing one of the top jockeys of the 19th century. A line appears below the left of the image, not affecting the signature. The Remarque drawing to the bottom right is 3" high x 2" wide. The image, signature, and Remarque are all in great condition.
