Leather saddle used by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. The well-worn worn black-leather saddle features Smith's initials, "MS," in white leather on each of the side flaps. A heavy wool cover has been affixed to the top of the saddle (photos confirm that Smith used a wool cover during the course of his career). The saddle displays considerable use throughout, including heavy crazing to the leather. Mike Smith was one of the greatest thoroughbred jockeys of his era and his 27 Breeder's Cup victories remains the top mark all time. Smith piloted Justify to the 2018 Triple Crown and he has a total of two Kentucky Derby wins, two Preakness Stakes wins, and three Belmont Stakes wins on his resume. He retired in 2021 with 5,623 wins and earnings over $336 million (third best all time). He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2023.
