Displayed is a 1998 FIBA Gold Medal awarded to Lisa Leslie, the star 6'5" center on the United States Basketball Team. Leslie grew up in Southern California, and she was the star of the USC Women's Basketball Team. She was a member of four U.S. Olympic Women's Basketball Gold Medal winners, only the second woman, after Teresa Edwards, to do so. As a professional in the Women's National Basketball Association, in 2002, while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks, she became the first woman to dunk a basketball in a professional game. She played in the WNBA for 12 seasons and was a 7-time All-Star. She also became a noted model and a sports TV studio analyst for Orlando Magic games. Leslie currently is the coach of the Triplets, a team in the professional BIG3, a league of three-man basketball teams. Leslie and Nancy Lieberman are the only women head coaches in this men's league. Leslie is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The offered medal has a diameter of 3" on the "basketball" part of the medal, and the medal is 3.75" at its longest. It weighs 4.5 ounces. Engraved on the medal: "WORLD 13th Women's Basketball CHAMPIONSHIP 98 GERMANY." This medal is a fine tribute to one of America's greatest women's basketball stars.
