Harlem Globetrotters jersey worn by famed ball handler Fred "Curly" Neal, circa 1980. The blue mesh jersey is lettered "Harlem Globetrotters" on the front and features the number 22 on the front and reverse. "Neal" is lettered on the reverse, directly above the number. All letters are applied in red on white tackle twill with the exception of "Globetrotters," which is applied in gold tackle twill. All numerals are applied in white on red tackle twill. The manufacturer's label on the left front tail is badly faded, but the size, 42, is still legible upon close inspection. The jersey is original as issued and displays significant wear. The numerals on both the front and reverse display bleeding and are partially detached from the stitching. Light staining is evident throughout and there is a small tear on the rear collar. Neal played with the Globetrotters from 1963 to 1985, taking over the main ballhandling role from Marques Haynes. Easily recognizable because of his bald head, Neal was a fan-favorite throughout his career and one of the most memorable team members during the 1970s, when the Globetrotters were frequently featured on ABC's "Wide World of Sports."
