Very rare baseball pennant dates to the circa 1910s New York Baseball Giants. Measuring 14" at the end and roughly 34" to the tip, rare item which we have only come across a few times is in incredible condition that we classify as EX-MT. Player is depicted in color in a circle with NATIONAL LEAGUE above and below, with white letters on a purple background and NEW YORK in Old English lettering. Tassels are both here and complete, and the tip is intact, the graphics are all crisp and clear and the lettering is all solid with no cracking. The only the only real fault that we can see is slight fading to the purple felt. The purple color is significant in that, in a little-remembered historical footnote, the Giants actually changed their uniform color to purple in 1913 in deference to New York University, as manager John McGraw was a devotee of the Manhattan institution. That design would last only a few years, explaining the scarcity of this matching pennant. In 1913, the year in which the denizens of the Polo Grounds first sported the color change, the Giants reeled off an impressive 101 victories to capture the National League pennant before falling to Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series.
