The 1989 version of the Oakland Athletics was packed with talented players and the team reached its potential, becoming the World Champions. Displayed is a 1989 Oakland Athletics World Championship ring. Under Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa, the Athletics had a season record of 99-63, and it won the AL West Division. The team defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 in games to take the AL Pennant and went on to sweep the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. Oakland had a powerful line-up: first baseman Mark McGwire hit .231 but had 33 home runs and 95 RBIs; DH Dave Parker hit .264, with 22 round-trippers and 97 RBIs; third baseman Carney Lansford batted .336; right fielder Jose Canseco had 17 home runs and 57 RBIs; and left fielder Ricky Henderson batted .294, with 52 steals. The Athletics' top starting pitchers: Dave Stewart, 21-9; Mike Moore, 19-11; Bob Welch, 17-8; Storm Davis, 19-7. Closer Dennis Eckersley was 4-0, with a 1.56 ERA and 33 saves. The displayed ring has a green center with a diamond appearing cubic zirconia surrounding the center stone on a baseball diamond image in the ring face. Lettering around the ring face reads, "OAKLAND ATHLETICS WORLD CHAMPS." The left shank has a last name, "THURMAN." The left shank also has an image of the Athletics' logo, an elephant standing on a giant baseball, and a small banner reading "World Series Champs," and the score, in games, of the World Series: "A's 4/SF 0." The right shank reads, "1989 World Series Battle of the Bay," and the right shank also has an image of the Golden Gate Bridge and an image of the World Series Trophy. The ring weighs 36 grams, and it is a size 7. The offering is stamped "AST Jostens."
