In 1947, the New York Giants, under the direction of team manager Mel Ott, finished in fourth place in the National League standings with a record of 81-73-1. This lot showcases a Spalding Official League Leader baseball that has been signed by 27 members of that year’s squad. Signatures include Johnny Mize (HOF), Sid Gordon, Buddy Kerr, Walker Cooper, Willard Marshall, Ernie Lombardi, Lloyd Gearhart, and all four starting pitchers from that season: Larry Jansen, Dave Koslo, Monty Kennedy, and Clint Hartung. All signatures are in black ink and quite legible. The baseball appears to have been preserved in a shellac-like substance which gives off a glistening orange hue. Mel Ott signature has been deemed clubhouse. Comes with full LOA from PSA.
