Beautiful crystal trophy was presented to superstar Jaromir Jagr by the Sporting News in recognition of his 1998-99 NHL Player of the Year designation. The two-piece award consists of a tapered rectangular wood base measuring 7x5x2" at the base, with a slot atop which sets a marvelous crystal figure measuring roughly 7" in height (including glass base) and 6" in diameter. Don't be fooled by its delicate look - the crystal portion is a hefty 4.5 pounds with the entire piece weighing roughly 6 pounds; it reads, "Sporting News NHL Player of the Year - 1998-99 - Jaromir Jagr - Pittsburg (sic) Penguins." The '98-99 campaign was one of the best in the Czech's elite career as he amassed league highs of 83 assists and 127 points to go with 44 goals; postseason awards included the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP), Pearson/Lindsay award (NHLPA Most Outstanding Player), and Ross Trophy (NHL Points Leader). His career includes a pair of Stanley Cups with Pittsburgh, eight All-Star Game honors, and he was named to the NHL's 100th Anniversary Team. JJ's 766 NHL goals ranks 4th all-time; though he played his last NHL game in 2018, his easy Hall of Fame induction has been delayed by his continuing to play professionally overseas, as he is currently in the Czech Extraliga as a player/owner at the young age of 51. Award is in NM condition.
