The 1951 National League tiebreaker playoff series was a result of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants each finishing the season with a record of 96-58 and ultimately resulted in one of the most important home runs in baseball history with Bobby Thomson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World." This canvas cloth banner was made for the 1951 World Series as it reads, "Welcome Brooklyn Dodgers, 1951 (later 3 added over the 1), National League Champions," but Thomson's home run won the pennant for the Giants. In the center there is a photo of Ebbets field in the middle of the Brooklyn Bridge. This banner was kept for two years and repurposed two years later when the Dodgers won the 1953 National League title, hence the "3" over the original "1" in "1953." Minor surface wear, otherwise excellent condition.
