Because of MLB's unofficial" Color Line," Jackie Robinson did not play in the Major Leagues until he was 28 years old. Thus, he was only able to play ten seasons, but he made the most of them. Presented is a ticket stub from the October 10, 1956, World Series Game 7 at Ebbets Field, Jackie Robinson's final Major League game. Robinson broke into the Majors with Brooklyn in 1947, he and played his entire Major League career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was the '47 NL Rookie of the Year as he hit .297 and led the NL in steals (29). In '49, Robinson had his best season, winning the NL batting crown with a .342 average and being named the NL MVP. In 1956, Robinson batted .275, with 10 homers, 61 runs, 43 RBIs in 357 official at-bats. In his final game, the Dodgers lost Game 7 of the '56 World Series to their nemesis - the New York Yankees, and, to put it simply, in Brooklynese, the Yankees "moidered 'em" - winning 9-0. The Bronx Bombers scored all of their runs on home runs: Yogi Berra hit two homers - each with a man on, a bases loaded blast by Elston Howard, and a grand slam by Moose Skowron. That gave Johhny Kucks a complete game shutout win and Don Newcombe the loss. Robinson played third base, batted fourth, and went 0-for-3, with a walk. The offered ticket stub measures 2.25x4.25", for a $7.35 Lower Stand seat. Although he did not play in this game, the occasion was also the final Major League contest for the Yankees' Don Larsen, who pitched a perfect game in the 1956 World Series for the Yanks. The ticket stub has added significance: It is for the game that gave the Yankees their 17th World Championship. The stub has been encapsulated and PSA graded FR 1.5.
