This is a pop 4 with 2 higher. Zach Wheat is a Hall of Fame outfielder who played all but the final year of his entire MLB career (1909-1927) with the National League Brooklyn franchise, then usually known as the Robins. Presented is a Sporting News Supplement photo in 1912, featuring Wheat. Often called "Buck" in a punning reference to "buckwheat," the cereal, Wheat batted a career .317, with 132 homers and 2,884 RBIs. He still holds the Dodgers franchise records for hits, doubles, triples, and total bases. Wheat led the NL in batting in 1918 when he hit .335. In 1912, Wheat hit .305 and was a rising star. As an outfielder, he led the NL in putouts seven times. He finished his MLB years with a season on the Philadelphia Athletics in 1927. Unlike many other batters of his era, Wheat swung from the end of the bat, with a big, corkscrew swing. The offered Sporting News photo is from issue M101-2. The photo measures 8x10", and it has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded PR 1.
