Rare envelope written in the hand of William Howard Taft, who still holds the distinction of being the only person to hold positions of both President of the United States and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Envelope measures 5x4" and Taft's flowing handwriting in 8/10 black fountain ink covers much of the front, along with postmark and canceled stamp. While he served as the 27th President, this is from his time on the Supreme Court, as seen in the printed return address. Envelope is addressed to a law book publisher in Cincinnati, fitting for a Chief Justice, and came with a letter dated 1925, which is not in this lot but is available elsewhere in this auction. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA - note that, though it does read "Authentic Auto," Taft did not actually sign and the slab does clarify "W. Taft Handrwriting."
