The late, great Roberto Clemente was a legendary right fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates who helped the team win two World Series titles (1960 and ‘71). A lifetime .317 batter, Clemente recorded exactly 3,000 hits during the course of his 18 MLB seasons and was tragically killed in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1973 while transporting supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He was just 38 years old. This lot offers a Roberto Clemente signed and personalized copy of the hardcover book “Roberto Clemente: Batting King.” The 188-page book, written by Arnold Hano and published in 1968, is the story of Clemente’s march to baseball glory. Clemente signed the outside jacket of the book, which wraps around it. The personalized inscription reads “To Mitch With Best Wishes Roberto Clemente.” The signature is in ballpoint blue ink and is very legible. Comes with LOA from PSA.
