In 1971, the Pittsburgh Pirates put together one of the greatest seasons in franchise history. Led by skipper Danny Murtaugh, the team posted a regular-season record of 97-60 to run away with the N.L. East Division flag before disposing of the San Francisco Giants in four games to win the N.L. pennant. In the World Series, led by the red-hot bat of Roberto Clemente (.414, 12-for-29) and the superb pitching of Steve Blass (two complete-game victories, 13 K’s combined), the Pirates outlasted the Baltimore Orioles to win their second Fall Classic of the decade. This lot showcases a team-signed ONL (Giles) Spalding baseball that has been autographed by 31 members of the team and part-owner Bing Crosby, who boldly put his signature right across the sweet spot. Notable signatures on this baseball include Clemente, Blass, Willie Stargell, Luke Walker, Manny Sanguillen, Bill Mazeroski, Bob Johnson, Bill Virdon, Al Oliver, Dock Ellis, Milt May and Vic Davalillo. Signatures are in various shades of blue ink and the baseball is in excellent condition. Comes with LOA from PSA.
