Presented is a wonderful find: A 1999 Chuck Knoblauch World Series Game 3 worn jersey, inscribed and signed by Knoblauch, that the Yankees second baseman wore on Oct. 26th when he crashed a clutch 8th inning two-run homer against the Atlanta Braves at Yankee Stadium to tie the game at 5-5, a contest that the Yankees won in 10 innings. The Yankees then won Game 4 to sweep the Series. Knoblauch played in the Major Leagues for 12 seasons: Minnesota Twins (1991-97), New York Yankees (1998-2001), and Kansas City Royals (2002). He was the '91 American League Rookie of the Year, a 4-time World Series Champion, and a lifetime .298 hitter, with 98 home runs and 407 stolen bases. Knoblauch was a 2-time Silver Slugger, a 4-time AL All-Star, and a Gold Glove winner. The Yankees were World Champions in 1998, and in the World Series of '99, the Bronx Bombers were trying to repeat as World Series winners. The Yankees won the first two contests in Atlanta, and the Series moved to new York's Yankee Stadium for Game 3 as the Yankees were facing ace right-hander Tom Glavine. Andy Pettitte started for New York, and he was ineffective. Glavine entered the bottom of the 8th inning holding a 5-3 lead. Joe Girardi led off the inning for the Yankees and singled. Knoblauch batted next. he had already scored a run in the 1st inning when he reached on an outfield error and later scored on a Paul O'Neill single. Knoblauch had also doubled and had been left stranded in the 3rd inning. Knoblauch drove Glavine's pitch into the left field stands to tie the contest and drive Glavine from the game. Mariano Rivera got the win for the Yankees. The offered jersey has the traditional interlocking navy blue "NY" on the left chest and a navy blue sewn-on number "11" on the back. Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio passed away in 1999, and thus, in his honor, the left sleeve has a navy blue number 5, and a black sewn-on armband. The right sleeve has a multi-color 1999 World Series patch. The left outside tail has four tags: A Russell Athletic manufacturer's tag; a Diamond Collection size "46" tag; a tag reading, "KNOBLAUCH 99," and a tag indicating the jersey as 100% polyester. On the right chest, using a black marker, Knoblauch has neatly inscribed, "Best Wishes!! 1999 WS Champions!!" Knoblauch has signed the left chest, in black marker. On the back, Knoblauch, using a black marker, has neatly inscribed and signed the jersey as, "Best Wishes!! Chuck Knoblauch ''99 World Series Champs!! Game used HR jersey," The offering comes with 14 assorted Chuck Knoblauch baseball cards. In addition, the offering comes with a signed Chuck Knoblauch LOA, dated 6-8-23. The jersey also comes with an enclosed photo match. The jersey shows fine use, and yet it is in excellent condition. In '99, Knoblauch was experiencing the throwing "yips" that would plague his fielding from second base, and in future seasons he would play mostly left field or be a designated hitter, and this 1999 World Series Game 3 worn jersey represents his greatest baseball moment as his home run helped the Yankees to ultimately sweep the '99 Series and then add a 2000 World Series title for their historic "three-peat" as World Champions.
