In 1951, the National League needed a best-of-three playoff series to decide the pennant winner. This was necessary when both the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers finished the regular season with identical 96-58 records. Offered here is a 1951 New York Giants Official Program and Score Card from Game 2 of that three-game playoff. Down one game to none, the Dodgers bounced back to record a 10-0 victory over the Giants that day. Brooklyn’s bats were on fire that day as four Dodgers homered including Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Andy Pafko, and Rube Walker. Measuring 6.5” wide by 10” high, the program and scorecard shows an aerial photo of the Polo Grounds on the cover with each of the eight NL teams logos surrounding it. Inside finds the facing lineups of both the Giants and Dodgers that day with each scorecard partially filled out with all the action that took place through seven innings of play. Surrounding the game’s details are vintage advertisements from the period including Camel Cigarettes, Knickerbocker Beer, Seagram’s 7 Crown, Gulden’s Mustard, and Colgate Shaving Cream. Overall condition is good with two staples still holding the Saddle Stitched booklet together. Original price: ten cents.
