Original snapshot photo signed and inscribed by Cy Young. PSA has encapsulated the photo and certified the signature as "Authentic." The photo pictures Young (sitting, far right) posing outside a hunting cabin with six of his friends. Young has inscribed the photo in black fountain pen (grading 5/10) along the top border: "Cy Young and hunting party in Michigan." This photo was obtained by our consignor's father in the early 1930s and is part of a much larger autograph collection featured in this auction. Our consignor's father was a big baseball fan and his hobby during his childhood was collecting autographs. Like most autograph collectors at the time, his main method was to write each player and enclose an index card or hand-drawn card to be signed and returned. As we can see by the size of the collection, most players were more than happy to oblige. All the items from the collection are featured in this sale, including high-grade signatures of many prominent Hall of Famers, including Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, and Wagner. Young seemed to be especially accommodating to his young fan at the time (perhaps because they were both from Ohio), as he not only sent him an autograph card (featured as a separate lot in this auction), but this signed photo as well. The photo (3.5x5.5") displays a tiny chip in the upper right and lower left corners, as well as a few light creases in the lower right quadrant. The recipient has written his name and address on the reverse in blue ink.
