Displayed is a circa 1933 Babe Ruth stereograph card showing the Bambino at the New York Yankee spring training camp in St. Petersburg, Florida. Stereographic pictures were a form of family, home entertainment popular from the 1850s-1930s. A three-dimensional view was obtained by placing a left eye view and a right eye view of the same subject next to each other and viewing the twin photos through a hand-held viewer. The stereograph of Ruth measures 3.5x7". Ruth is posed near a dugout, with a tall palm tree providing a fitting Florida background. In 1933, Ruth hit .301 for the Yankees with 34 home runs and 114 RBIs. In '34, he dropped to a .288 batting average, with 22 homers and 104 RBIs. He finished his career by playing half a season in '35 with the National League's Boston Braves, where he hit 6 home runs in 72 at bats but batted only .181. At his prime, Ruth - an Inaugural Hall of Famer - in a number of years hit more home runs by himself that did several whole teams in the American League, and he still holds the all-time lifetime MLB Slugging (.690) and OPS (1.164) records. The displayed item offers a vintage stereographic look at the late-career, immortal Ruth.
