Presented is one of the earliest images of Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio that we have ever handled, a Type I Haas-Schriner original photograph. As a 17-year-old in 1932, Joe played in three games for his hometown San Francisco Seals baseball team, a squad in the top (AA at the time) level Pacific Coast League. The next year, Joe played a full season with the Seals, and he brought lots of attention to the Seals and the Pacific Coast League when he set a new PCL record by hitting in 61 consecutive games, foreshadowing the MLB 56 game consecutive game hitting streak that is still Major League Baseball's all-time best. In the July 14th game in which he broke the previous PCL record of 49 consecutive games, 10,000 fans attended the game at Seals Stadium in San Francisco. In that 1933 season, Joe batted .340, with 28 home runs, with 45 doubles and 13 triples. He played through the 1935 season with the Seals, and in 1935 he hit .398, with 34 home runs. By the next season, he was with the New York Yankees, where he played center field from 1936-42 and from 1946-51, missing three seasons for World War II service in the U.S. Army. DiMaggio was a part of nine World Champion teams. He hit .325 lifetime, with 361 home runs. The photo measures 7.9x9.9", and it shows DiMaggio in his stance, ready to hit. At the bottom of the photo is printed "Pacific Coast League Consecutive Game Hit Record - 61 - 1933." The photo has some small scratch marks in the lower right corner, and stamped on the back is "Haas-Schriner Photo.... San Francisco." Other than the aforementioned marks, the photo is in excellent condition. The photo has been encapsulated and PSA certified "Type I AUTHENTIC 1933."
