Original Type I photograph capturing Babe Ruth lying in a hospital bed while visited by Yankees general manager Ed Barrow in 1925. On April 7, 1925, Ruth collapsed twice on the train while returning home with the club from spring training. When the team arrived in New York, Ruth was rushed to St. Vincent hospital, but little information about his health was released to the press during what was an almost six week stay. For that reason, the press referred to his ailment as the "belly ache heard round the world." Ruth's condition was actually quite serious and on April 17th he underwent surgery for an intestinal abscess. He finally returned to the Yankees lineup on June 1st. Four Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with two handwritten notations. The photo (10x8") displays a few light creases. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
