This historic bat is the very bat that Pete Rose used to break Ty Cobb's all-time singles record while playing with the Expos on July 27, 1984. Photo-matched to AP Image 8407270233, this Mizuno model PR4000 bat sources from the 1984 labeling period, weighs in at 31.7 ounces, measures 33.5 inches and features the standard finish. Professional model bat is uncracked and exhibits evidence of excellent use. Slight checking from repeated ball contact noticed on the barrel along with several ball marks, ball stitch impressions, black ink transfers, cleat marks, Rose's signature tape job, pine tar and like other Rose bats of the era, has evidence of the top of the barrel being drilled out and being filled back in; in other words, it was corked! After Rose's historic single, off of Steve Carlton we might add, someone had the forethought to write, "July 27, 1984 - Bat used when Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's major league singles record 3053" in fine black ink; signed by Lamb. The bat is also signed by the "Hit King" in black marker on the barrel; comes with PSA and JSA LOA for signature. Also comes with Rose LOA signed by Pete Rose attesting to the bat's authenticity and a PSA/DNA GU 10 LOA for use. The PSA GU10 LOA mentions that the bat sourced from Rose's ex wife. We're uncertain where that information came from but our research indicates that the bat never came with a letter from Mrs. Rose nor was it ever in her possession. Pete Rose gave this bat, along with other items, to longtime friend and coach, Billy DeMars. The chain of possession went from Pete Rose, to Billy DeMars, to the memorabilia marketplace; this is fact. Comes with Davious Photo-Match LOAs!
