Amazing carte de visite from the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who assumed the office in 1861. This CdV measures 2.5x4", though it has been inset into a matte with the whole piece measuring approximately 4.5x6.5". The delicate albumen portrait is in superb condition, with the only noticeable blemish being a small strip of image loss over Honest Abe's right eye. Back more clearly shows how the CdV was inserted into the matte with tape, back has stray letters in bottom right corner written in pencil, not quite legible. Matte shows wear from handling with a couple of stains to the left of the image. Considering the fragile nature of the piece, this is not only a very rare specimen, but remains in amazing shape in light of its vintage.
