Historically significant documents pertain to the release of the Little Colonel from the organization to which he had been a defining presence. Player release form is dated October 31, 1959 and is signed by Pee Wee and the Dodgers’ Asst. General Manager. Paper measures 4x6”. EX-MT. Letter dated November 9, 1959 is from President, Warren C. Giles, thanking Reese for his contribution to the League as well as baseball. Although the first part of the letter expresses mixed emotions regarding Pee Wee’s decision to enter radio and television, Giles ultimately extends a fond blessing to Reese: “Pee Wee, you have made a great contribution to the National League, not only to your team… but to the whole game of baseball as well. You made this contribution as a player, later as a coach but mostly as a true sportsman and gentleman. I am glad your new work is not completely divorced from the game of baseball itself. You will still be in it, even though indirectly. For that I am glad. I am sure you will do the same fine job… as you have in all the other [positions] and you have my sincere wishes for success and happiness.” Signed by both Reese and Giles at the bottom. Letter is typed on “The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs Carew Tower Cincinnati, Ohio” stationary (6x8”). Staining mostly to the verso, comes through slightly on the front edges. Letter is folded in the middle, o/w in NRMT condition. Two important documents defining the end of an unforgettable era in Dodgers history.
