The 1976 ABA All-Star Game was played on January 27th at McNichols Arena in Denver. For this game, the league abandoned its usual East vs. West format and instead had the league's first-place team at the All-Star break face off against a team of ABA All-Stars. As it turns out, the Denver Nuggets just happened to be in first place at the time and were already scheduled to host the All-Star festivities. In a high-scoring affair, the Nuggets outlasted the team of ABA All-Stars, 144-138, with David Thompson (29 points, eight boards) taking home the MVP Award. For the first time ever, a Slam-Dunk Contest was held at halftime and New York Nets superstar Julius “Dr. J.” Erving won it over fellow competitors Thompson, Artis Gilmore, Larry Kenon and George Gervin. This lot boasts a ticket stub (2" wide by 3.5" high) from the '76 ABA All-Star Game that has been graded Excellent 5 by PSA. It is the only known graded example in existence.
