Presented is a dual-signed cut containing the 1938 autographs of New York Yankee Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio. In 1938, the 23-year-old DiMaggio was in his rookie season, and he burst upon the baseball scene with a .324 batting average, 32 home runs and 140 RBIs. In that same season, Gehrig kept his record setting consecutive game streak going as he batted .295, with 29 homers and 114 RBIs. In three years, DiMaggio would set the all-time consecutive games hitting streak at 56 games. Although no one knew it at the time, Gehrig was playing in his last successful season in 1938. In the next season, Gehrig was already feeling the effects of ALS, although no one, including him, knew this. His mobility and reactions suffered. He batted only .143 in eight games and had no home runs when he finished playing - at the time he stopped playing, Gehrig was hopeful that after a brief rest, that he could resume his career. Unfortunately, he never played again, and he passed away in 1941. In his final game, he played in his 2,130th consecutive game, a record he held until it was broken by Cal Ripken Jr. The cut signatures are on 2.25x4.25" paper. Both Gehrig and DiMaggio signed neat, large autographs, each while using a blue fountain pen. The Gehrig/DiMaggio dual-signed cut has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as NM-MT+ 8.5. Although the cut exhibits darkening from the passage of time, it remains in excellent condition. Also comes with JSA LOA.
