He was "The Duke of Flatbush" when he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and Edwin "Duke" Snider decidedly deserved his royal appellation. Displayed is a signed, limited edition Duke Snider bat. The Hall of Fame center fielder was immortalized, along with fellow New York City based center fielders Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, in Terry Cashman's classic baseball song Talkin' Baseball, with the haunting refrain intoning "Willie, Mickey and the Duke." Snider hit 407 lifetime home runs, and from 1953-57, he hit at least 40 home runs each season. Home runs became harder to hit for him when the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, but Duke still holds the following franchise hitting records: home runs (381), RBIs (1,271), and extra base hits (814). The offered bat is a Duke Snider signature Louisville Slugger model, and it measures 34.75" in length and weighs 34.75 ounces. Etched on the barrel is Snider's facsimile signature. Also etched on the barrel is "407 LIFETIME HOME RUNS" and the limited edition marking "404 of 407," with the 407 representing his career home runs. On the knob is etched "C117 L." Snider signed the bat, on the barrel near his facsimile signature, using a black fine tipped marker. Snider's beautiful signature, on the barrel, is close to perfect, 9+/10.
