Presented is a Roger Clemens signed and inscribed full game ticket from the Sept. 18, 1996, contest when the right-hander struck out 20 batters in a 4-0 nine-inning complete game win for his Boston Red Sox over the Detroit Tigers at Detroit's Tiger Stadium. Only three men in Major League history have struck out 20 batters in a nine-inning game, and no one has exceeded 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game. Tom Cheney did strike out 21 batters in a game, but he achieved it in a 16-inning game in 1962. Clemens pitched for 24 years in the Major Leagues: Boston Red Sox (1984-96), Toronto Blue Jays (1997-98), New York Yankees (1999-2003 & 2007), and Houston Astros (2004-06). Clemens was a 7-time Cy Young winner, a 7-time ERA Champ, a 2-time Triple Crown winner, a 2-time World Series Champion, and an MVP. He has a 364-184 lifetime record, with a career 3.12 ERA and 4,673 strikeouts. Clemens was the first Major Leaguer to record 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game when on April 29, 1986, he overpowered the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. Clemens accomplished the feat a second time a decade later, and he remains one of only three pitchers to have accomplished 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game, joining Kerry Wood and Max Scherzer. In his second 20-strikeout game, Clemens gave up only five hits and struck out the Tigers' Travis Fryman four times and Detroit's Tony Clark three times. The signed full game ticket measures 2x5.6". It is for a $2.50 bleacher general admission ticket for a game played before only 8,779 fans. Clemens signed the ticket with a fine-tip black marker, adding "20 Ks" to his autograph.
