Vintage photograph of Joe Jackson posing on the field with Chicago White Sox teammate Reb Russell, circa 1915, "signed"on the front by Joe Jackson. PSA has encapsulated the photo, certifying the photo as Type IV Authentic, and identifying and certifying the "Joe Jackson" signature as an Authentic example scripted by Joe Jackson's wife. During Joe Jackson's retirement years, nearly all the autograph requests sent to him were fulfilled by his wife and/or sister. This example is no exception and has been inscribed "To James Wiggins/Best of Luck/Joe Jackson" in blue ink (grading 7/10) along the base. The name "Reb Russell," also in written vertically in blue ink (by Mrs. Joe Jackson) next to his image (as an identifier). This piece has special significance, because Jim Wiggins was a well-known early autograph collector and this piece obviously originates from his personal collection. Jackson and Russell were teammates on the White Sox from 1915 to 1919, but 1915 and 1916 were the only two seasons in which the White Sox wore the uniform style shown here. The photo (3.5x5.5"), which appears to be a real-photo postcard, displays a large area of black paper residue on the reverse from its having once been affixed to an album page, otherwise in Very Good to Excellent condition.
