Displayed is a 1939 World Series pennant that was sold at the fall classic between the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees. The Yankees swept the Series by a 4-0 margin in games, winning a World Series for the then-MLB record fourth straight time. Hall of Famers for the Yankees: Joe McCarthy (mgr.), Bill Dickey, Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Gomez, Joe Gordon, and Red Ruffing. Hall of Famers for Cincinnati: Bill McKechnie (mgr.), Ernie Lombardi, and Al Simmons. The Yankees essentially won the World Series in Game 4 when, holding a 3-0 lead in games, the game was 4-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Bronx Bombers had Frank Crosetti on third and Charlie "King Kong" Keller on first with one out. Joe DiMaggio singled to right and after an error by the Reds right fielder, Crosetti scored and Keller also scored, his slide knocking the ball out of the glove of Reds' catcher Lombardi, who had been accidentally kicked in the groin. While Lombardi writhed on the ground in pain, DiMaggio came all the way around the bases to put New York ahead 7-4, a lead that held up in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Yankees the World's Championship. The pennant is 26.5" from end to end and at its widest point it is 9.5", and it is framed at 16x33". The pennant has "World's Series 1933/CIN'TI REDS N.Y. YANKEES" printed on it. There is a little bit of unevenness at the top edge of the pennant, but this is the only detraction that we see.
