Displayed is a beautiful Mickey Mantle Near Mint cut signature. In 1951, When Mantle was a 19-year-old in spring training attempting to make the New York Yankees, the Bronx Bombers' manager, Casey Stengel, concisely summarized the phenom's attributes when the Ol' Professor said, "He [Mantle] has more speed than any slugger I've seen, and more slug than any other speedster...." Mickey would go on to challenge Babe Ruth's single-season home run record of 60 in 1961, and eventually Mantle hit 536 homers, more than any other switch-hitter in Major League history. When he first played with the Yankees, Mantle's enormous speed and great power were obvious. Yet, Mantle had amazing ability in still another skill - penmanship. As a young man working at a desk in a mining office in Oklahoma, Mantle had time to repeatedly practice his signature, and he would sign pages of yellow legal pads with his autograph, tirelessly working to prefect his penmanship. On the approx. 2x5.2" cut, Mantle has used a black marker to sign his flowing, meticulous, bold signature on card stock or thick paper. The cut signature has been encapsulated and given a PSA Auto Grade of NM - MT 8. This offering displays the appealing signature of an American immortal.
