"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game," said Babe Ruth - a man who lived what he preached as Ruth swung for the fences, connecting for 714 lifetime home runs, for many decades the most in history. Offered is a Babe Ruth original Type I photo from the American League Service Bureau. Ruth led the New York Yankees to seven World Championships, but before he became the game's biggest home run hitter he was a wonderful left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, even pitching an occasional game later in his career for the Yankees. Ruth had an outstanding pitching record of 94-46, with an excellent 2.28 ERA. As a hitter, he still holds the Major League record for lifetime OPS at 1.200. In 1930, when the offered photo was taken, Ruth was 35-years old but still going strong for the Yankees. Ruth led the American League with 49 homers, batted .359, scored 150 runs and batted in 153, and led the American league in OBP (.478), Slugging (.732) and OPS (1.250). The photo shows Ruth in a tie and jacket, appearing very dapper, more like a Hollywood star than a ballplayer. The 8x10" Type I Photo is encapsulated and PSA certified as "Type I AUTHENTIC." On the front lower right is printed, as if script, "Underwood." Written in black pencil on the back, by an unknown hand, is "Babe Ruth File." Stamped on the back is "JUL 31 1930." The photo is a fine remembrance of the nattily attired Ruth, still in his prime as a slugger.
