A wonderful artifact emanating from the boxing event of the late 19th century is from the collection of Jack Skelly, himself. The place was the old Olympic Club, Louisiana. The event, “Carnival of Champions” featuring the fight of the century, Jim Corbett vs. John L. Sullivan, which lasted 21 rounds. On the same program was George Dixon, pound for pound one of the greatest fighters to enter the ring. He fought Jack Skelly for the featherweight championship. Ticket to that event offered here, amazing that it survived the ravages of time in Excellent condition. Printed with “Geo. Dixon and Jack Skelly Grand Glove Contest for the Featherweight Championship of the World. Tuesday September 6th, 1892”. Ticket is in the shape of a parallelogram with rounded corners. Measures 3x4.5”.
