Displayed is a historic Aaron Judge New York Yankee jersey that was game worn by the Yankee-record breaking homer hitter during Games 3 and 4 of the ALCS in 2022, as Judge claimed the all-time American League single-season home run record from Roger Maris. The 6'7", 282 lb. Judge came up from the minors to join the Yankees in 2016, and he hit only .179 in 84 at bats with four home runs and 10 RBI. Judge was so disappointed in his batting average in 2016, that he put his average ".179" on his cell phone so that he would be repeatedly reminded of that batting mark. That reminder must have helped, because Judge made a tremendous improvement in the next season. In 2017, he upped his batting average to .284. As for home runs, he smashed 52 of them to set a new Major League home run mark for rookies and led the American League in round-trippers. Judge knocked in 114 runs that season and led the AL in runs scored with 128. That great season earned Judge the AL Rookie of the Year Award. In Judge's seventh season, 2022, the towering powerhouse engaged in a pursuit of the American League single-season home run record of 61, set by fellow New York Yankee right fielder Roger Maris 61 years before, in 1961. Maris achieved the all-time AL single-season home run record when he hit his 61st homer on the final day of the 1961 season to pass yet another Yankee outfielder, Babe Ruth, who had 60. Judge hit his 60th home run on September 20th at Yankee Stadium against Pittsburgh's Will Crowe with none on. Judge then tied Maris when Aaron hit his 61st, with one man on, on Sept. 30 against Tim Mayza of the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto, and Aaron took the AL single-season home run record on Oct. 4th on a bases-empty blast against Jesus Tinoco at Texas. Judge finished the regular season with a .311 batting average, and he led the Major Leagues in homers (62), runs (133), RBIs (131, tied with Pete Alonso of the New York Mets), OBP (.425), SLG (.686), and OPS (1.111). Judge's monster 2022 season earned him the AL MVP. For his career, Judge, a 4-time All-Star, has a .284 batting average, with 220 home runs. The jersey is all original and shows nice use. Judge has continued to use jersey number 99 because it is the number he wore as a young player when he first attended the Yankees' Major League spring training, and Judge uses the number to remind him of the days when he was struggling to make the Major League roster. The home white Judge jersey was worn by him in both of the Yankees' 2022 ALCS home games against the Houston Astros, Games 3 and 4, that New York lost as they were swept by Houston. Thus, including playoff games, Judge wore this jersey in his final game during his record-breaking season. The white home jersey, with navy blue pinstripes, has an interlocking, navy blue "NY" sewn-on the left chest. High on the right chest is a sewn-on navy blue Nike Swoosh. On the back of the neck is the MLB logo. Below the logo is "99," in sewn-on navy blue numerals. Seven silver buttons are on the front. On the bottom outside left tail is a manufacturer's tag showing the MLB AUTHENTIC Collection and the Nike Swoosh and a New York Yankees' tag. Also on the left front outside tail is an MLB Authentic hologram along with Fanatics hologram. With Judge having agreed to a nine-year, $36 million contract in December 2023, he will be playing for the New York Yankees at least until he is 39 years old, Thus, a Judge game used jersey from his historic 2022 season should become even more valuable as Judge continues to add to his Yankee legend in the years to come.
