Presented is a multi-signed October 23, 1976, copy of The Sporting News that has a color photograph of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" and Reds' manager Sparky Anderson, with signatures from all eight regular position players on the Big Red Machine, plus manager Anderson. In 1995, the Reds won the National West Division, and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 in games in the NL playoff and swept the New York Yankees in the World Series. On the cover are the signed photos of: Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, catcher (10 homers, 74 RBIs); Hall of Famer Tony Perez, first base (19 homers and 91 RBIs); Hall of Famer Joe Morgan, second base (27 homers, 111 RBIs, and a .320 batting avg); Pete Rose, third base (.323 batting average); Dave Concepcion, shortstop; George Foster, left field (29 homers, 121 RBIs, and a .306 batting average); Cesar Geronimo, center field; Ken Griffey, right field, (.336 batting average). The signatures are 8-9/10. The cover is titled "Reds' Musclemen." The 72-page issue has many articles on the Reds and on past World Series. The issue is intact, but there are some small tears in the corners and especially on the top of the newspaper. The pages exhibit foxing and darkening because of the passage of years. Considering its age, the weekly newspaper, known as "The Bible of Baseball," is in very good condition. From 1970-79, the Big Red Machine won six NL West Division titles, four pennants, and two World Series and they are regarded as one of the most powerful baseball dynasties in history, and this signed copy of The Sporting News provides a wonderful memento of that powerhouse Reds' dynasty, the iconic Big Red Machine.
