Historic circa 1920s leather football is also of a somewhat unusual style. Padding inside retains its original Draper and Maynard Sporting Goods tag, with the owner's name (SABRAW) written on the padding in red marker. Thorough use is shown with some chipping to the leather, particularly the right ear flap, which has started to separate from the helmet. Stamped on the back is "Size 7 1/4" and "Order No. 820085" indicating that this may have been a special order. This amazing artifact presents magnificently not in spite of its use, but because of it; a well-worn edition which has been very well preserved. In addition, the crossed leather straps across the top makes this an unusual sample for the era, and helmets of this kind could be used not only on the gridiron, but for military applications as well.
