The 1961 home run chase between Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris captured the imagination of the baseball universe as both were aiming for Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60. A late-season injury derailed The Mick, but Maris kept on slugging, hitting his 61st on the season's final day. This stub is from that October 1 contest against the Boston Red Sox, with Rajah's homer accounting for the only scoring of the day in New York's 1-0 victory. Encapsulated by PSA as STUB PR1 (MK) due to the writing on the back detailing the event. Writing in unknown hand includes, "Roger Maris hit #61 - 2 balls, 0 strikes - 4th inning, 1 out - Time 2:46." Great memento from a historic chase and worthy of a footnote - despite the "controversy" citing that Ruth hit his mark in 154 games while Maris had 162 games, there never actually was an asterisk in the record book next to Maris' feat at any time.
