He was known as "King Carl," and "The Meal Ticket". and putting those two Hubbell monikers together means "Royalty you can count on," and Hubbell was most certainly that. Offered is a Carl Hubbell single-signed baseball. The Hall of Fame left-hander pitched for 16 Major League seasons, all with the New York Giants. He had a lifetime record of 253-154, with a 2.98 ERA. Hubbell was a 9-time All-Star, a 3-time NL ERA leader, and a 2-time NL MVP. Hubbell's key pitch was a screwball, and he pitched for the Giants from 1928-43. Carl is most famous for his amazing performance in the All-Star Game on July 10, 1934, at the Polo Grounds, in New York. Hubbell struck out the last three batters in the first inning and the first two batters in the second inning: Each of the five batters was a future Hall of Famer. King Carl struck out, in order: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Joe Cronin. Another famous Hubbell pitching performance was on July 2, 1933, when he shut out the St Louis Cardinals at the Polo Grounds on six hits as he threw an astounding 18 innings for a complete game victory. From 1933-37, Hubbell won at least 20 games every season, and he helped the Giants to three pennants and the 1933 World's Championship. The signed baseball is a Rawlings Official National League Ball (Giamatti). Hubbell signed the ball on the sweet spot in blue ink from a ballpoint pen. The autograph is neat and clearly written. The ball comes with a PSA LOA.
