Offered is the only PSA graded example of the 1926-29 Exhibit rookie card of Paul "Big Poison" Waner, the Hall of Fame outfielder who batted .333 lifetime. Paul Waner was only 5'8" and 153 lbs., but his Big Poison nickname was justified. His rookie season was in 1926 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he hit .336 with a .941 OPS. The next season, Paul hit .380 to win the National League batting title and the NL MVP, and his '27 OPS went up to .986. For most of his career, Paul was on the same Pittsburgh Pieate team as his younger brother, Lloyd "Little Poison" Waner (5'9" and 132 lbs.) who hit .316 lifetime and joins Paul as the only brother combination in history in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. hall of Fame pitcher Burleigh Grimes, the last pitcher officially permitted to throw a spitball, said of Paul, "I may have got (Paul) Waner out, "but I never fooled him." Paul Waner was a 3-time batting leader, and a 4-time All-Star. He played 15 seasons with Pittsburgh, parts of three seasons with Brooklyn, and parts of two seasons each with the New York Yankees and the Boston Braves. The exhibit card measures 3.25" x 5.25". Waner has neatly signed the card in black ink. The exhibit card has some very small fraying in the corners and some darkening because of age. The card has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA, and this ONLY PSA/DNA GRADED EXAMPLE is certified as Good 2, with the autograph certified as 8.
