Displayed are two signs from Baltimore's Memorial Stadium. Located on 33rd Street, there were two versions of the stadium. The first version went from 1922 and was called Baltimore Stadium or Municipal Stadium. The second version of the stadium was called Memorial Stadium, in honor of the Baltimore military service members who lost their lives in World War II. Memorial Stadium was home to the Baltimore Orioles' minor league team and then the Baltimore Orioles American league team that moved from St. Louis where the team was the Browns and started play in Baltimore in 1954. Memorial Stadium was the home of the Baltimore Colts of the NFL from 1953-83, and the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, from 1996-97. It has been the site of six World Series, a Major League Baseball All-Star Game, an NFL Championship Game, and a Super Bowl. It has been the home field of Hall of Fame professional players such as Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, Johnny Unitas, Lenny Moore, and Raymond Berry. Hall of Fame football coach Weeb Ewbank coached the Colts there and Hall of Fame manager Earl Weaver managed the Orioles at Memorial Stadium. The offering includes two stadium signs: 1) One metal sign measure 15x15". The sign shows "OUT" in black letters on a white background. There are two small circular holes in the sign, both meant for display. The sign shows paint loss at the top left. There is a small bend in the sign on the bottom right. There are also some scratches and paint smears, and a blistering of the white paint in the upper left, and some minor loss of paint on the letters. 2) The other sign measures 10x18", and it is metal coated with thin plastic. This sign reads, "EXIT," in blue on a white background, and it also has a directional arrow pointing to the right. The sign has six circular holes meant for displaying the sign at the stadium. The sign shows extensive use. There is some loss of the plastic coating, some loss of paint, a few paint smears, a few paint drops, some small rust marks near the holes, and a few other miscellaneous small markings. These two signs were a part of Memorial Stadium, and they stand as mementos of the glory days of baseball and football, from the Orioles, Colts and Ravens, at a 54,000-60,000-seat capacity stadium with a neighborhood feel. Each of the signs comes with a LOA from both the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Orioles Museum, and the Maryland Stadium Authority.
