Original glass plate negative of Casey Stengel produced by renowned baseball photographer Charles Conlon. Stengel is captured as a member of the Brooklyn Robins while he takes a cut at the plate during pregame batting practice. The notation "Stengel (Brooklyn) 4" is printed along the top border in Conlon's distinctive hand. Although no year is listed, the uniform style shown here was used by by the Robins only during the two-year period 1916-1917. Prior to becoming one of the greatest managers in baseball history, Casey Stengel enjoyed a fine fourteen-year Major League career (1912-1925), playing on four pennant winners and two World Championship clubs during that span. The negative (4x5") displays a small loss of emulsion in the upper right corner and is in Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
