Ty Cobb is regarded as the consensus fiercest competitor in baseball history. He played hard at all times and created many enemies with his combativeness. "I have observed that baseball is not unlike a war," said Cobb. "Baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. It's a struggle for supremacy - a survival of the fittest." And yet not every photo of Cobb shows him with teeth bared, and eyes blazing with anger. Cobb himself says, "When I came to Detroit, I was just a mild-mannered Sunday schoolboy." Presented is a Cobb inscribed photo, taken in Cobb's youthful years but printed in the 1950s, of a cherubic Cobb, with the photo suggesting an innocent youth that was at home in Sunday School. That "mild-mannered youth" went on to compile the highest lifetime batting average in Major league history at .367. At one point, Cobb had the most hits (4,191) and most stolen bases (892) in baseball history. The inaugural Hall of Famer led the American league in batting average 12-times. The back of the 8x10" photo has a wonderful Cobb inscription that The Georgia Peach wrote in his trademark green ink and sent to a fan: "Back in the days where - Look at the collar - ascot tie/also detachable cuffs." The photo comes with a full PSA/DNA. The photo is in excellent condition, and "against type" photo of a nearly angelic Cobb, combined with Cobb's handwritten distinct inscription of the bygone style of his clothing, conveys a unique, vintage charm and a collectible sure to spark great interest.
