Displayed is a cut autograph from Babe Ruth with accompanying provenance. Ruth is the consensus baseball GOAT, the Greatest of All Time. He could be considered the GOAT on his hitting alone, with 714 home runs, often hitting more home runs in a season than the total homers of each of a number of teams in the American League that year. The Bambino hit for a .342 lifetime average, and he still holds the lifetime Major League record for both slugging (.690) and OPS (1.164). Not only that, but Ruth was a superb pitcher. He had a career won-lost record of 94-46 and a lifetime ERA of 2.28. Ruth also once held the record for pitching consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series at an astounding 29.2 innings. Thus, an autograph from the Babe is a hit in any sports collection. Ruth's signature is on a 2x3.5" card. It is a beautiful signature, in ink from a fountain pen, that has much better eye appeal than its PSA/DNA grade of 8. Ruth, a natural left-hander, was taught in Baltimore's St Mary's Industrial School for Boys to write right-handed, and his beautiful signature is known for his big and bold stylish script. The consignor's family member was a member of the Spalding Babe Ruth Baseball Club and, by way of provenance, even has the accompanying Spalding Babe Ruth Baseball Club certificate to go with the signature. The Club certificate measures 6x8.5". The certificate was folded into fourths, and the folds remain. As one can see from both sides of the certificate, and the bottom left corner of the cut signature, there are identical stains. The certificate reads, "SPALDING BABE RUTH BASEBALL CLUB/This certifies that, 'John Murphy' (name written by an unknown hand in blue ink) is a Club Member in good standing, having been present at the studio meeting of the 'Babe Ruth In Person' radio program." Most likely, the member of the consignor's family met Babe Ruth at an event through the Spalding Babe Ruth Baseball Club. The certificate is signed "Babe Ruth"/Director and "Bill Stern"/Director. Stern was a very famous sports broadcaster at that time. The cut ink signature has been encapsulated and graded PSA/DNA Certified Auto Grade NM-MT 8.

Note: The certificate has a facsimile Ruth signature. The PSA 8 signature is the only hand-signed item in this lot.
